Immediate Family tracks the rise and collaborations of a group of legendary studio musicians (Danny Kortchmar, Waddy Wachtel, Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar and Steve Postell) through the 1970s, chronicling their partnerships (Carole King, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, etc.) and their record of hit-making. Directed by Denny Tedesco, whose documentary The Wrecking Crew followed the first wave of studio musicians in the 60s, the film reveals the machinery behind the era of the singer-songwriter, when the talents of these musicians were in furious demand. The foundations of their enduring friendship, formed on the road and in studios, is recalled with clarity—reminisced with fondness through intimate interviews with the guys themselves, as well as the memories of some of rock’s most iconic voices.

“….keeps hustling along like a soft-rock freight train, relying not just on the then-and-now chemistry between the four core players but also on our eagerness to jump with them to the next celebrity-session story. ” –Variety

“A fantastic array of archival clips, and testimonies from the likes of Phil Collins, Carole King, Don Henley, Keith Richards, the late David Crosby, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young and Jackson Browne…” – Chicago Sun-Times
