Honeyland: CANCELLED
Macedonia, documentary, subtitled, 89 min., unrated
Oscar-nominated for both Best Documentary Feature and Best International Feature Film, it focuses on a middle-aged woman living with her ailing mother in a village without electricity or running water. Her source of income and meaning comes from the bees she cultivates and the honey they produce. All this changes with the arrival of a raucous family who move next door. “[The filmmakers] have shaped their observations into a luminous neorealist fable, a sad and stirring tale of struggle, persistence and change” – New York Times
