Director: Richard Linklater
Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon follows one evening in the life of Lorenz Hart, best known as the lyricist half of the successful songwriting team of Rodgers and Hart. That evening is March 31, 1943, arguably the worst night of his life in it being opening night of the new Broadway musical Oklahoma!, written by Richard Rodgers and his new lyricist partner Oscar Hammerstein II, all indications being that it will be the biggest hit in Rodgers’ already illustrious career. By the time this night is over, Hart will have confronted both a world that no longer values his talent and the seeming impossibility of love.
“Linklater has crafted one of his finest dramedies, a consistently fascinating exploration of the frailty of the artist, buoyed by one of Ethan Hawke’s most remarkable performances.” — RogerEbert.com
“Mr. Hawke seems like the last actor you’d cast in this role, yet he delivers the performance of his career.” — Wall Street Journal
